Windmill Grass Genus Details
This fine-stemmed, leafy, turf-forming perennial grows up to 5 feet high. Windmill grass is found on many different types of soils, but prefers fertile soils. It's persistent and drought resistant, but disappears after a few years if not well managed. Windmill grass is native to east and south Africa but thrived in the Gulf Coast and California when introduced. It's one of the best grasses for rotation grasslands in tropical and subtropical areas.

Grains are spheroidal to ovoidal, sometimes elliptical. The exine is thin and the surface is granular to finely reticuloid. Pocaceae apertures are 1-porate, with the pores usually circular to ovoidal.
